Prescribed burn in Pineview to be visible within the city: Kamloops Fire Rescue

KAMLOOPS — A prescribed burn in Pineview is expected to be visible in Kamloops for Tuesday (Nov. 30) and Wednesday (Dec. 1).

Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) says a contractor is completing a prescribed burn for the City of Kamloops above the Trans Mountain pipeline off Lac Le Jeune Road.

Jeff Pont, KFR Life Safety Educator, says prescribed burns are meant to make different areas around the city fire safe, and residents shouldn’t be alarmed.

“We’ve seen what wildfires can do and we want to make sure the boundaries and areas around our city are prepared,” Pont says. “It’s all to do with fuel and fire mitigation. That’s why it’s done in the fall. There are certain parameters that have to be met – humidity and temperature – in order to do these burns. We’ll see about tomorrow, but today everything lines up.”

KFR encourages residents to call 250-828-3472 if they have any questions regarding prescribed burns.
