Interior Health’s COVID-19 restrictions on capacity limits to expire at midnight

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health’s COVID-19 restrictions on organized events will be repealed at midnight on Wednesday (Dec. 1).

During the B.C. government’s COVID-19 briefing Tuesday (Nov. 30) afternoon, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that indoor events may operate at 100 per cent capacity with fully vaccinated spectators. However, outdoor events continue to have capacity restrictions of 5,000 people or 50 per cent capacity, whichever is greater. Mask requirements for public indoor settings remain in effect.

Interior Health says proof of vaccination is required for indoor events with more than 50 people, as the provincial orders remain in effect.

“We’ve been closely monitoring COVID-19 activity, hospitalizations, and immunization rates in Interior Health and we’ve seen our cases drop,” Interior Health Interim Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Sue Pollock states.

Previously, Interior Health’s indoor organized events were only allowed 50 people or 50 per cent of a venue’s capacity – whichever is greater.

While Vancouver Coastal, Fraser, and Island Health were able to hold 100 per cent capacity events since Oct. 26, Interior and Northern Health remained at 50 per cent.

There are no capacity restrictions for indoor and outdoor personal gatherings in private homes and vacation accommodations. Interior Health still recommends keeping groups small and to gather outside.

However, Henry announced worship services must now be at 50 per cent capacity, unless everyone in the service is fully immunized. Everyone attending a worship service in the province must now wear a mask and can only remove them when drinking and eating.
