Military arrives to support flood defence efforts in Merritt
MERRITT – The flood damaged community of Merritt is now receiving support from the Canadian Armed Forces to improve defences against rising water levels.
Members of the Canadian military are assisting local resources to hold back the Coldwater River which was expected to surge again overnight Sunday (Nov. 28).
In a news release issued Sunday, Merritt Mayor Linda Brown said “We’ve had help from neighbouring local governments since this began, and with the incoming weather system it’s now appropriate to bring in the army to help shore up our flood defences,” said Brown. “Their work will help to ensure that we are as well-prepared as we can possibly be when the next pulse of streamflow hits us.”
Civic offiicals are urging residents to register on the Voyent Alert app to receive the latest emergency notifications on the flooding situation.
