MERRITT — As Phase Two of Merritt’s return plan gets underway this weekend, the area has now been placed under a flood watch.
In a release last night (Nov. 27) the City says the BC River Forecast Centre has upgraded the High Stream Flow Advisory to a Flood Watch. Forecasts are calling for 40 to 60 mm of rain, and freezing levels are expected to rise – melting snow in higher elevations.
The City of Merritt says all residents still on evacuation order should not be in the area outside of the hours of 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Those under evacuation alert need to be ready to leave on short notice.
The City adds it is working to protect critical infrastructure and reinforce banks on the Coldwater River.
