KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has put hundreds of properties in the Nicola and Coldwater basins under evacuation alert due to the threat of more catastrophic flooding.

Saturday afternoon (Nov.. 27), the TNRD issued alerts for Areas I (Blue Sky Country), M (Beautiful Nicola Valley — North) and N (Beautiful Nicola Valley — South). Residents of those areas need to be ready to leave on very short notice.

Maps of the impacted areas can be found below.

Within those areas, there are 49 properties that were previously on evacuation order. Those orders remain in place.

The TNRD says the alert was issued “so that residents in low-laying areas adjacent to vulnerable
rivers, streams, and creeks can prepare to evacuate their premises or property should it be
necessary.”

The district recommends that residents in these areas:

  • Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area,
    should an Evacuation Order be called while separated;
  • Pack essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable
    papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information), immediate care needs for
    dependents and, if time and space permits, keepsakes for quick departure;
  • Prepare to move disabled persons, children and/or neighbors if assistance is needed;
  • Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area (if possible);
  • Arrange transportation for all your household members. Fill gas tanks of personal vehicles;
  • Arrange accommodation for all members of your household.
