One killed, three injured in McLure-area crash Wednesday

McLURE, B.C. — RCMP are now confirming one fatality in a horrific Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 24) crash north of Kamloops.

According to spokesman Cpl. Mike Halskov of B.C. Highway Patrol, the crash involving four vehicles took place at about 3:00 p.m. along Highway 5 near McLure.

Two transport trucks collided head-on, with two other vehicles caught up in the crash as well.

Halskov says a woman in her 70s, a passenger in the northbound semi, was killed. The driver of the northbound semi sustained serious injuries and the driver of the southbound semi was uninjured.

Both drivers of the secondary vehicles caught up in the crash sustained injuries described as non-life threatening.

The highway was closed overnight for on-site investigation, re-opening early Thursday morning.

While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, though road conditions and weather conditions are being considered as possible contributing factors.

Halskov reminds motorists to drive to road and weather conditions as winter sets in, equip their vehicles with proper winter tires and carry chains where applicable.
