Kamloops Search and Rescue looks to replace truck after it was stolen, damaged during Merritt flood

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) says one of its pickup trucks was stolen while volunteers were helping rescue Merritt residents during last week’s flood.

In a social media post, KSAR says its swiftwater rescue team was heading to Merritt last Monday (Nov. 15) when its Dodge Ram pickup truck stalled.

Because it was in a hurry, the team left the truck at roadside, calling for a tow and continuing on to Merritt.

When the tow truck arrived, the truck was gone.

KSAR reported the truck stolen to Merritt RCMP, who recovered it later that evening, though KSAR says it is no longer running.

That puts the organization in a bind — waiting for ICBC to move forward while looking for a replacement vehicle in a time of severe supply shortage.

KSAR is asking the public for leads on a new pickup truck — preferably a diesel, one-ton crew cab equipped for towing — and donations to help offset the unplanned expense.
