Twenty-unit apartment opens for Clinton seniors with low to moderate incomes
KAMLOOPS — Clinton Creek Estates is now open in the village, providing housing and supports for seniors in the community with low to moderate incomes.
Located at 309 Dewdney Ave. (formerly 300 Smith Ave.) in Clinton, the single-storey wood-frame building with 20 one-bedroom apartments has a commercial kitchen, lounge, dining area, laundry, accessibility scooter parking and a covered patio for residents. The B.C. government says monthly rents will vary depending on residents’ household income.
“Seniors in B.C. should have the option to stay in the communities they helped build,” B.C.’s Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors’ Services and Long-Term Care Mable Elmore says. “This new apartment building will provide seniors in Clinton with quality and affordable homes with support for day-to-day living, close to friends and loved ones.”
The project was initially intended to renovate the former Clinton Elementary School into an affordable apartment building with 10 units in 2017. When asbestos was found on site, the project changed to a complete redevelopment with double the number of homes to better meet the needs of the community.
