MERRITT, B.C. — Merritt RCMP confirms a missing man who was last seen walking into fast-flowing flood waters has been identified and found safe in Kamloops.

“He is patiently waiting for the evacuation order to be lifted to return home,” Cst. Jon Puterbough says. “We want to thank the public for their assistance in identifying him and getting us in contact with him to ensure he made it out safely.”

RCMP asked for the public’s assistance on Friday (Nov. 19) to identify the man who was last seen Monday (Nov. 15) afternoon near Chapman Street toward Merritt Secondary. A witness told police the man walked behind the school and was not seen again.

Merritt was put on evacuation order Monday due to the flooding of the Coldwater River.
