KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Food Bank says the community’s generosity made the 15th Annual B-100 Basics for Babies event a record setting success.

Friday morning (Nov. 19), Kamloops residents came out in droves to donate essential items for the baby bank. Drop-off stations were set up at the Delta Hotel downtown, the Kamloops Food Bank and at Broadcast Centre.

Food bank Executive Director Bernadette Siracky says the cooler weather didn’t damper the spirit of those who came out to support. The collection event brought in $63,000 and 2,000 lbs of baby products and supplies.

“To have that baby bank full year round is for us a weight off our shoulders honestly, because we know that we have that product to give these babies.”

The food bank says with the ongoing pandemic, destructive summer wildfires, and historic flooding this week, having supplies readily available is even more important.

“And we’re seeing the effects at the food bank with the number of folks that are needing our service,” explains Siracky. “New people and new families that have never accessed us before are coming through our door with just tears in their eyes. It is really heart wrenching honestly. And to be able to support them in any way they need is an honour.”

Anyone who missed drop off times today can always bring donations directly to the Kamloops Food Bank at 171 Wilson Street, or donate monetarily online at www.kamloopsfoodbank.org.
