15th Annual Basics for Babies to fill Food Bank’s baby needs Friday

KAMLOOPS — At the Kamloops Food Bank, the baby bank is always well-stocked. That’s due in large part to the success B100’s Basics for Babies has had for the past fifteen years, in helping to highlight the need for items and funds to help support babies in our community.

“It’s a no-brainer,” Bernadette Siracky, Executive Director of the Kamloops Food Bank tells CFJC Today. “We need to — as a community — surround these babies with love and support. It’s just a no-brainer and Kamloops shows up for us.”

From formula and diapers to handmade blankets and hats, the baby bank has it all. While a family with a new baby would never choose to rely on the food bank. However, Siracky says when it happens the Food Bank is there to ensure no little ones go wanting.

“For us to be able to support those families who have little ones with quite expensive products — the basics – is something that we’re very proud of,” Siracky explains.

The event is driven by the sponsors, who continue to step up year after year. Exceed Electrical Engineering has been a supporter of Basics since 2020. For Principal Joshua Laye, it’s an event that hits close to home.

“There are so many people who require formula feeding or diapers for their young children,” said Laye. “Personally, at home, we feed via formula so we know the costs. We’re fortunate enough to be able to afford that, but many people may not have that same fortune.”

Joshua is impressed at the reach the Kamloops Food Bank has, and its ability to care for everyone in the community — from the oldest to the youngest.

“It not just the other stuff that’s provided — produce and the hard goods,” Laye says. “But it’s just so cool we have that babies program.”

Basics for Babies will be live on B-100 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and on CFJC TV from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Donations can be dropped off at the Food Bank on Wilson Street, at the Delta Hotel on Victoria Street or at Broadcast Centre, 460 Pemberton Terrace.
