Blazers rebound with 6-1 blowout over Giants

Nov 13, 2021 | 11:16 AM

KAMLOOPS — For the second time in the 2021-22 Western Hockey League (WHL) season, the Kamloops Blazers fell to the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday (Nov. 10).

However, also for the second time this season, the Blazers didn’t make that loss turn into a losing streak when they beat the Vancouver Giants on Friday (Nov. 12) 6-1.

Kamloops local Dylan Sydor opened the scoring early with a wrist shot down the right wing, followed by Daylan Kuefler finishing a cross ice path from Mats Lindgren after some shifty skating at the blue line.

The Blazers held a 2-0 lead until the third period where the floodgates opened. Connor Levis and Josh Pillar scored power play goals, followed by Kuefler scoring his second of the night and Matthew Seminoff scoring late. Giants defenceman Alex Cotton scored with 42 seconds remaining in the third to spoil Blazers goaltender Dylan Garand’s shutout bid.

The Blazers are 12-2-0 on the season, good for 24 points in 14 games and first place in the Western Conference. They’re undefeated at the Sandman Centre with a 5-0 record.

The Blazers travel to Langley Saturday (Nov. 13) for a rematch against the Vancouver Giants.
