Special weather statement issued with heavy snowfall expected for Coquihalla and Okanagan Connector
KAMLOOPS — Drivers in the Interior are being warned of incoming heavy snowfall on sections of the Coquihalla Highway, and the Okanagan Connector.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for both highways today. The forecaster says the Hope to Merritt, and Merritt to Kamloops stretches of the Coquihalla can expected upwards of 15 to 20 cm of snowfall starting Saturday evening (Nov. 13), along with the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna.
Additionally, motorists are being advise of similar snowfall amounts for the Trans Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, and along Highway 3 between Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass.
As of Friday, Environment Canada notes there is still uncertainty around the exact timing and total snowfall amounts. But current modelling shows heavy snowfall is expected to arrive Saturday evening, persisting until it transitions to rain by Monday.
