Coquihalla reopens Wednesday morning after overnight closures

MERRITT, B.C. — The Coquihalla Highway was back open as of 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, but conditions are still very treacherous for drivers attempting to traverse the high mountain highway.

The route between Merritt and Hope was closed southbound throughout much of the overnight after a series of vehicle incidents, then closed northbound as well around midnight.

A large dump of snow was falling, causing commercial trucks to spin out.

Environment Canada has a snowfall warning in place for the Merritt-to-Hope stretch.
