NANOOSE BAY — One person was airlifted to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries following a helicopter crash near Nanoose Bay.

BC Emergency Health Services dispatched paramedics a forested area around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4. Ground crews were first to arrive with the air ambulance later dispatched.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW a male pilot in control of a Bell Jet Ranger helicopter crashed five to six kilometres west of the Island Hwy.

“He was given emergency first aid by a mechanic who was on site who called 911. Two ambulances arrived and he was transported to the intersection of NW Bay Rd. and Hwy. 19.”

The pilot was then airlifted to hospital. He was the lone occupant of the helicopter.

Crews loaded the pilot onto the air ambulance just after 2:30 p.m.

An investigation into the crash continues.
