Friends make desperate plea for help in Kamloops woman’s disappearance; RCMP Serious Crimes Unit investigating

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say the Serious Crimes Unit is now involved in the search for a missing Kamloops woman. Shannon White’s disappearance is being investigated as suspicious, and her friends are hoping someone who knows something will step forward.

Friends of White, who hasn’t been heard from since Monday (Nov. 1), have been working tirelessly to get the word out about her disappearance.

CFJC Today spoke with Makayla Peverill on Thursday (Nov. 4), who is a close friend of White’s and had grown concerned after not hearing from her.

“Physically, I had seen her on Saturday night and the last time I spoke with her was on Monday morning at about 8:00 o clock.”

RCMP say the 32-year-old left home in her black Jeep TJ around 8:00 a.m Monday, but didn’t arrive for work at her job at Kamloops Hyundai, or return to her dog Buddy. Peverill says this is out of character for White, who regularly posts on social media and stays in contact.

Peverill describes her friend as an honest, kind woman who she built a connection with after they worked together.

“She’s honestly one of the best people I’ve ever met,” says Peverill. “I really wanted to surround myself with those kind of people and she was one of them. She’s very kind, she’s very giving, she’s very analytical like I am, she can remove herself from a situation and understand all points of view and I really really cared about that portion of her.”

White is part of a large community of Jeep owners in the Kamloops area who go off-roading together. Another friend of White’s, Kelly Zacharias, says Shannon loves spending time with other people and has plenty of interests.

“Building her Jeep that she loved to go wheeling with, playing pool whenever she wanted,” she says. “She’s a very social, intelligent woman. She loved to read.”

White was reported missing on Monday, and by the morning of Wednesday, Kamloops RCMP confirmed her black Jeep had been located parked along the 200-block of Nicola Street in downtown Kamloops. However, Cst. Crystal Evelyn says White was not with her vehicle.

“We’re exploring all investigative avenues,” Evelyn told CFJC Today. “Her vehicle was seized and is being searched as part of the investigation as well.”

Police also note when the Jeep was located, a pink flower that typically sits above her spare tire was no longer there. The public, including Shannon’s Jeep community, are asked to be on the lookout for this pink flower.

Evelyn says RCMP are asking anyone who may have seen her or her Jeep on Monday, or may have video surveillance in the Lower Sahali, Notre Dame and downtown areas to contact them.

“We are concerned. Her disappearance is being treated as suspicious and our Serious Crimes Unit is investigating,” notes Evelyn. “One of the things, we’re just looking to the public to help us find any clues that we can to help figure out where she is and what happened.”

As the search continues, friends and family are urging people to contact Kamloops RCMP if they have seen or heard of anything that may lead to White.

“If people have anything that’s kind of sitting in the back of their mind and they’re like, ‘Hmm… I don’t know if that could be information.’ It could be information, just call it in,” stresses Zacharias, “Say you might have something regarding this file number and tell them. If you don’t tell them then nobody knows and they can’t look in to it.”

Information can be called into Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000, and callers can reference file number 2021-38386.
