KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops couple is in store for an extra special retirement.

Patrick Kidder’s trip to pick up some tools uncovered that he and his wife Jody scored an unexpected windfall to put towards their retirement dreams: a Lotto Max ticket with the Extra worth $500,000.

According to British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), Patrick was on his way to a friend’s house to borrow some tools when he stopped by a gas station to check the couple’s ticket from the Sept. 24 draw.

“He came home and told me we won $20 and a few free plays on one of our tickets and then continued with ‘and on this one, we won $500,000,’” Jody explained. “I didn’t believe him so I had to use the internet to confirm.
