Kamloops councillor calls out City’s mandatory vaccination policy
KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops city councillor is taking a swing at the City’s decision to impose a mandatory vaccination policy.
Denis Walsh is concerned the policy will result in permanent job losses for some city workers, arguing the policy will have little or no benefit to anyone. “Being vaccinated does not guarantee that you can’t be unknowingly carrying COVID and capable of spreading it to others, so anyone who thinks that is the case is deluding themselves,” he said.
B.C. health officials have stated numerous times over the course of the pandemic, that vaccines will not prevent an individual from contracting COVID-19, but instead the vaccine will reduce the level of illness for most people who do contract the virus.
Walsh is speaking out because he believes councillors need to take a leadership position on a policy this important. “I can back up my position with credible information,” Walsh said, “but I’m concerned the reality seems to be that many city officials have already rushed to judgment and are bringing forward another back-room decision on a major issue without being open to proper public engagement and debate, and allowing a public council vote.
