Blazers exit October with a 4-1 win over the Cougars, first place in B.C. Division

PRINCE GEORGE — The Kamloops Blazers finished October the same way they spent most of it: winning hockey games.

The Blazers travelled north to Prince George and beat the Cougars 4-1. Connor Levis finished off a passing play to give Kamloops the early lead before the Cougars tied it late in the first thanks to a puck that deflected off a Blazers skate and right to a wide-open Riley Heidt.

The second period though, it was all Blazers. Matthew Seminoff jammed the puck in at the side of the net and Ethan Brandwood’s seeing eye wrist shot floated in to give the Blazers a 3-1 lead after a period where they outshot the Cougars 23-8.

The Blazers finished October with an 8-1-0 record, good for 16 points in nine games and first place in the Western Hockey League (WHL) B.C. Division. They’ll host the Portland Winterhawks at the Sandman Centre on Wednesday (Nov. 3) at 7 p.m. It’s the first time the Blazers will play a WHL team outside of B.C. since March 10, 2020, against the Spokane Chiefs, before the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown the 2019-20 season.
