Team Brown qualifies for pre-trials playoffs

KAMLOOPS —- After finishing their round robin pool at 4-and-2 it was wait and see with fingers crossed for the Corryn Brown rink at the curling pre-trials in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.

Team Brown held the third and final playoff — but the result of one game in the last draw of the round robin would determine if they would stay there.

Penny Barker from Moose Jaw was at 3-and-2, but in the event of a tie with Team Brown afer her final game, Barker would take the tie-breaker based on her win over Brown in the round robin.

So Team Brown needed Krista McCarville to win the game over Barker — and that is exactly what happened.

The Northern Ontario rink posted a 7-5 win, and with Barker’s loss, it qualified Corryn Brown for the playoff round.

Krista McCarville, whose only loss was to the Brown rink, takes second, while Jacqueline Harrison finished first.

The three teams from Pool A and three more from Pool B now meet in playoffs to decide two to qualify for next month’s Olympic Trials in Saskatoon.
