Keeping healthy and safe on Halloween night

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP are reminding the public to be safe this Halloween weekend.

Drivers are reminded to be vigilant and drive slowly, while trick-or-treaters are told to make themselves visible to drivers by carrying flashlights.

“Make sure that you’re not tripping over the costume as well. Keep it at a length that makes it easy for you to move around in. Wear reflective colours,” Cst. Crystal Evelyn, media relations officer for the Kamloops RCMP.

“It might be a bright costume, if you have a bright costume that’s really awesome — but some people it might just be a matter of putting reflective tape on their backpack or their costume or even the bag that they’re carrying for their goodies,” she elaborated.

Children are reminded to not go inside homes when they’re trick-or-treating and homeowners should clear their walkways to ensure safety.

With the added layer of COVID-19, Interior Health also has some suggestions for protecting yourself from the virus.

“You can use any creative idea that you have to make sure that you are keeping your distance from others when you’re handing out candies,” said Dr. Fatemeh Sabet, medical health officer at Interior Health.

“You can use tongs, candy slides or any other creative way that makes sure that you are within at least two feet distance from others,” Dr. Sabet suggested.

Everyone is reminded to follow all health and safety protocols and stick to the public health orders in place.
