Weekend for Kamloops RCMP includes guns seized and man passed out behind wheel

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP responded to approximately 372 calls for service from midnight Friday, Oct. 22, to 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021. Below are some highlights from those calls.

Guns seized in mental health call

Just after midnight on Saturday morning, RCMP responded to a report of a man in emotional distress who was in possession of a handgun.

Police say they located the man on Eighth Street, arrested him under the Mental Health Act without incident and took him to the hospital.

Two firearms were found in the vehicle and seized by police as part of an investigation surrounding their possession and storage.

Vehicle impounded for excessive speeding downtown

Officers saw a Jeep take off at a high-rate speed on the 200-block of Lansdowne Street Saturday evening.

RCMP say they attempted to stop the vehicle but it allegedly accelerated to speeds more than 50 km/h over the limit on Seymour Street near First Avenue.

Police stopped the vehicle on the 200-block of Seymour Street, issued a 24-hour driving prohibition, seven-day impound and violation ticket for excessive speeding.

Man passes out behind wheel; vehicle impounded

A man was arrested after allegedly driving while prohibited and influenced by drugs.

RCMP responded to 10th Street and Moncton Avenue where the man reportedly passed out inside a van that was occupying a traffic lane.

The man was lodged in cells and later released with a court date, pending the investigation’s conclusion and charge assessment.
