QUESNEL, B.C. — Quesnel-based West Fraser Timber is buying an oriented strand board mill in the southeastern United States for more than 345-million dollars in Canadian funds.

West Fraser says the purchase from Georgia Pacific will improve service for West Fraser’s U-S customers.

The mill in Allendale, South Carolina has been closed since 2019 and will add about 135 jobs in that city when it reopens after an estimated 70-million dollar upgrade.

West Fraser primarily produces lumber and oriented strand board for Canadian and international markets and has 34 sawmills in B-C, Alberta and the southern United States.
