B.C. reports 457 new COVID-19 cases; hospitalizations up by 24

VICTORIA — B.C. reported 457 new COVID-19 cases for Tuesday (Oct. 26), with 83 of them in Interior Health.

Active cases decreased to 4,829 in B.C. (down by 137 since Monday), while slightly decreasing to 642 in Interior Health (down by 23). Of the provincial active cases, 390 individuals are in hospital (up by 26), 155 of them are in intensive care (up by six). The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Elsewhere, 176 new cases were reported in Fraser Health (2,002 active), 82 in Northern Health (877), 61 in Vancouver Coastal Health (670) and 55 in Island Health (579). No new cases were reported for people who reside outside of Canada, although that active count sits at 59.

In the past 24 hours, two new deaths have been reported, neither in Interior Health, for a provincial total of 2,131.

No new outbreaks were declared at healthcare facilities, although 28 are still active, including Overlander Residential Care in Kamloops.

As of Tuesday (Oct. 26), 89.6 per cent (4,155,181) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 84.5 per cent (3,918,385) have received their second.

Vaccine status

B.C. reported 4,181 new COVID-19 cases between Oct. 18 and 24. Of them, 2,377 were unvaccinated (56.9 per cent), 300 were partially vaccinated (7.2 per cent), and 1,504 were fully vaccinated (36 per cent). Per 100,000 population after adjusting for age, the unvaccinated population accounted for 288.8, the partially vaccinated accounting for 95.1 and the fully vaccinated accounted for 35.2 cases.

Between Oct. 11 and 24, B.C. hospitals took in 362 patients who were positive with COVID-19. Of them, 252 were unvaccinated (69.6 per cent), 24 were partially vaccinated (6.6 per cent) and 86 were fully vaccinated (23.8 per cent). Per 100,000 population after adjusting for age, the unvaccinated population accounted for 44.9, the partially vaccinated accounted for 10.9 and the fully vaccinated accounted for 1.9 hospitalizations.
