KAMLOOPS — Hockey fans can accomplish quite a bit in 48 seconds.

They can go to the washroom, grab a snack or drink at the concession, and check their phones for out-of-town scores.

Every now and then, they could miss three goals.

The Kamloops Blazers accomplished that Friday (Oct. 22) evening at the Sandman Centre against the Vancouver Giants in a 7-4 win. Quinn Schmiemann started it off with a power play goal in the first period – his first Western Hockey League (WHL) goal since returning from his American Hockey League tryout with Lehigh Valley.

Twenty seconds later, Marko Stacha skated down the left wing and wristed his fourth goal of the season. Twenty-eight seconds after that, Logan Stankoven followed suit by stealing the puck and finishing off a give-and-go play with Josh Pillar. Public address announcer Bill O’Donovan couldn’t finish the previous goal announcement on either play.

Early in the third period, Fraser Minten scored the Blazers’ sixth goal of the game that ended up being the insurance goal. The Giants scored three goals in a third period surge to make the final nine minutes interesting, although Stankoven scored his second of the night into the empty net to seal the game.

The Blazers sit first in the WHL B.C. Division with a 6-1-0 record, good for 12 points in seven games. They host the Victoria Royals Friday (Oct. 29) evening at the Sandman Centre.
