B.C. closes the work week with 649 new COVID-19 cases, 13 more deaths

VICTORIA — B.C.’s active COVID-19 case count rose above 5,000 once again Friday (Oct. 22).

New totals released by the province’s health ministry show 649 new cases in the province Friday, with an active caseload of 5,106.

Eighty-eight of the new cases were found in Interior Health. There are 778 active cases in the region.

The ministry reports 365 people in hospital with COVID-19 province-wide, including 143 in intensive care.

Thirteen more people have died of the virus, for a provincial death toll of 2,109. Three of the day’s deaths occurred in Interior Health.

There are 25 active healthcare facility outbreaks in B.C., including Overlander Long Term Care in Brocklehurst.

The ministry notes 89.4 per cent of all eligible British Columbians have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The proportion who have received two doses has reached 83.9 per cent.
