KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP responded to approximately 361 calls for service from midnight Friday, Oct. 15, to 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021. Below are some highlights from those calls.

Homemade ‘taser,’ drugs seized during drug investigation

A driver was arrested near Halston Avenue and Salish Road after an officer located them engaged in suspected drug activity Sunday evening.

RCMP say as part of the ongoing investigation, a homemade conductive energy device, cash, and suspected meth, fentanyl, and cocaine were seized.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2021-36615.

Bear spray on the North Shore

Police attended the 300-block of Tranquille Road in response to a woman reportedly being bear sprayed around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, which happened about an hour earlier behind a business.

Officers spoke with a woman, who stated she did not know the suspect, but described him as heavy and on a skateboard.

Anyone who may have witnessed the alleged bear spraying or has information related to it is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP and reference file number 2021-36521.

Man struck by vehicle in traffic near Batchelor Hills

RCMP were contacted about a person jumping in and out of traffic at Westsyde Road and Collingwood Drive Saturday evening.

Shortly after, police received an update advising a man had been struck by a vehicle and received serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, to which ambulance was responding.

The roadway was closed briefly while police investigated.

Impaired driver stopped twice in a day

A Kamloops man was arrested for prohibited driving just hours after being stopped for impaired operation of a motor vehicle on Friday afternoon.

The vehicle was stopped near Highridge Drive and Todd Road with no insurance. A roadside breath test showed a “warn” reading, and the driver was given a three-day driving prohibition and violation tickets for no insurance and license, along with their vehicle being impounded.

Shortly after at around 3:25 p.m., RCMP say the same driver was seen driving a different vehicle on the 5000-block of Dallas Drive. The man was arrested for prohibited and impaired driving. Charge assessment recommendations are anticipated pending the investigation’s conclusion.
