KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers’ first loss of the season didn’t become a losing streak.

In Langley on Saturday (Oct. 17), the Blazers stormed out of the gate with a 3-0 lead over the Vancouver Giants after the first period. The game winner came early as Logan Stankoven’s goal 1:27 into the contest held up.

With the game secured, Kamloops local Dylan Sydor scored his second goal and ninth point of the 2021-22 Western Hockey League (WHL) season, keeping pace with Stankoven, Josh Pillar, and Caedan Bankier in a four-way tie for first in Blazers scoring.

Goaltender Dylan Garand stopped 23 shots for his first shutout of the season. Defenceman Quinn Schmiemann also scored his first point since returning to Kamloops from his American Hockey League tryout with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The Blazers exit Saturday with a 5-1-0 record on the season, good for 10 points in six games and first place in the B.C. Division.

The Blazers return home to the Sandman Centre Friday (Oct. 22) at 7 p.m. to play the Giants again.
