Blazers blow out Cougars 8-3 in home opener

Oct 10, 2021 | 7:03 AM

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers welcomed the 50 per cent capacity sell out crowd of 2,957 for their home opener at the Sandman Centre Saturday (Oct. 9) night.

The game against the Prince George Cougars was out of reach halfway through the second period where the Blazers gave themselves a 5-0 lead, but the home crowd had plenty of opportunities to cheer in the first regular season Western Hockey League (WHL) game in front of Kamloops fans since March 2020.

While it was a balanced scoring effort with 11 skaters on the scoresheet, two Kamloops locals led the way. Logan Stankoven scored two goals and two assists, while second-year player Dylan Sydor notched three assists in his first regular season home game in front of fans.

It will be two weeks before the Blazers fans can cheer their team in person again. The Blazers begin a four-game B.C. road trip starting Tuesday (Oct. 12) in Victoria against the Royals.
