KAMLOOPS — Elections Canada has released validated results from the Sept. 20 federal election. They show a minor swing in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo votes, but a much more dramatic swing in Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola.

The final results for the Kamloops riding show Conservative MP-elect Frank Caputo with 30,281 total votes — an increase of exactly 400 votes from the preliminary results announced just after election night and 43 per cent of the total vote.

That increased Caputo’s margin of victory over runner-up Bill Sundhu of the NDP. Sundhu’s vote was finalized at 20,431 — an increase of 25 votes from the preliminary results and 29 per cent of all votes cast in the riding.

Liberal Jesse McCormick (12,717 votes, third place), Corally Delwo of the People’s Party (4,033, fourth place) and Iain Currie of the Green Party (2,576, fifth place) did not see any changes from the preliminary results.

Independent Bob O’Brien saw his vote total drop from 291 to 264, while independent Wayne Allan dropped from 147 to 146.

In Central Okanagan-Similkameen-Nicola, Conservative MP Dan Albas received approximately 700 more votes in the validated count to finish with 30,563, or 47.6 per cent of all votes cast in the riding.

But Liberal Sarah Eves was stripped of more than 2,000 votes and dropped from second to third place. Joan Philip of the NDP received about 350 more votes in the validated count and climbed into second with 21.5 per cent of the vote.

There were very minor vote changes in Cariboo-Prince George, North Okanagan-Shuswap and Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon that did not impact final standings. Incumbent Conservatives were re-elected in all three ridings.
