B.C. reports 752 new COVID-19 cases, nine more deaths

VICTORIA — B.C. is reporting 752 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday (Oct. 6), with 164 of them in Interior Health.

B.C.’s active caseload increased slightly to 5,945 while Interior Health’s slightly decreased to 1,142. Provincially, 350 people are in hospital with 136 of them in intensive care. Interior Health has 42 patients currently hospitalized with 33 of them in intensive.

Nine new deaths were recorded – none of them in Interior Health – raising B.C.’s death toll to 1,992.

Elsewhere, 297 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Fraser Health (2,349 active), 85 from Vancouver Coastal (824), 76 from Island Health (743), and 130 from Northern Health (829).

There is one new healthcare facility outbreak at Mission Memorial Hospital in Fraser Health. There are 18 active healthcare outbreaks in B.C. – five of them in Interior Health, including Overlander and Royal Inland Hospital.

As of Oct. 6, 88.4 per cent (4,098,733) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 81.9 per cent (3,797,462) have received their second.

Vaccine status

Between Sept. 28 and Oct. 4, there were 4,894 COVID-19 cases reported, with 63.7 per cent (3,117) of those from unvaccinated individuals, 6.5 per cent (316) from partially vaccinated and 29.9 per cent (1,461) from fully vaccinated.

In that timeframe per 100,000 population, 296.8 were unvaccinated, 89 were partially vaccinated and 35.5 were fully vaccinated.

Over the past two weeks (Sept. 21 to Oct. 4), there were 420 COVID-19 hospitalizations. Unvaccinated individuals accounted for 69.3 per cent (291), partially vaccinated 8.3 per cent (35) and fully vaccinated 22.4 per cent (94). Per 100,000 population, unvaccinated individuals had 44, while partially vaccinated had 16.3 and fully vaccinated had 2.1 hospitalizations.
