KAMLOOPS — B.C. Housing says it is looking into an extensive renovation or replacement of the Glenfair seniors apartment complex in downtown Kamloops.

Owned by B.C. Housing, the complex is located at 1100 Glenfair Drive, just southeast of the Kamloops courthouse.

In a news release, David Eby, the minister responsible for housing, says Glenfair includes nine residential buildings that are between about 40 and 60 years old. In total, there are 80 housing units that have required a lot of ongoing repairs. The complex provides housing for seniors living with disabilities or who are on fixed incomes.

Eby says the planning process for renovating or replacing the complex is in its early stages and tenants have been advised. He notes if redevelopment is approved, existing tenants will be supported to live in their units for as long as possible and will be given first opportunity to live in the new units.

In the news release, Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian says the City is pleased with the announcement.

“The replacement of aging affordable housing stock and the commitment by B.C. Housing to offer new affordable units on site to the existing tenants aligns with the Downtown Plan’s land-use policies for this area of the Columbia Precinct,” Christian said.
