BC records 593 new COVID-19 cases, with no new virus-related deaths Tuesday

VICTORIA — Health officials are reporting 593 new COVID-19 cases around B.C Tuesday (Oct. 5), with no new virus-related fatalities.

According to latest data from the BC Centre for Disease Control, 128 of those new cases were recorded in Interior Health and there are currently 1,151 active cases in the region.

Across B.C, there are now 5,937 active cases, with 345 people in hospital and 144 in intensive care. The rest of the active cases are recovering at home in self-isolation.

The province says no new deaths have been reported over the past 24 hours, for an overall total of 1,983.

There are 19 active healthcare facility outbreaks in B.C., including Royal Inland Hospital, and Overlander Longterm Care.  As of Tuesday, Interior Health has declared the outbreak over at The Hamlets at Westsyde long-term care in Kamloops. There were six cases: three residents and three staff.

As per the latest update from the provincial health ministry, 88.3 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first vaccine dose and 81.7 per cent have received their second dose.
