KAMLOOPS — While Interior Health declared Kamloops Seniors Village’s outbreak over, the long-term care facility experienced a staff exposure.

In an email to families and residents of Kamloops Seniors Village that was obtained by CFJC Today, an asymptomatic staff member who last worked the night shift on Sept. 25 on the 1BC and 2BC neighbourhoods tested positive “related to a City of Kamloops community exposure.”

While an outbreak has not been declared, the email states Interior Health and the Medical Health Officer have placed the following exposure restrictions for Kamloops Seniors Village’s complex care 1B, 1C, 2B, and 2C neighbourhoods over the weekend through Tuesday (Oct. 5):

  • Neighbourhoods are closed to social visits
  • Essential visits only for fully vaccinated visitors
  • Two times daily symptom monitoring for residents, with low threshold for testing
  • Palliative visits can continue
  • Residents not fully vaccinated are to be on isolation for the duration of the exposure event
  • All staff continue to wear masks and protective personal equipment
  • Residents are only isolated to the neighbourhood, not to their rooms

The exposure event restrictions are in place for 10 days from the last onsite exposure of Sept. 25 and does not impact the Assisted-Independent Living side of the building.

Kamloops Senior Village states its next call with Interior Health and the Medical Health Officer is on Oct. 5 to see if the exposure event can end or not.
