Driver nabbed for excessive speed in Lillooet, claims car’s nav system displayed incorrect speed limit

LILLOOET, B.C. — Lillooet RCMP are reminding drivers that the applicable speed limit on any road is the one posted on roadside signs — not on your vehicle’s navigation system.

The reminder comes after a woman was pulled over last Thursday (Sept. 23) for speeding.

Driving a black Acura, the woman was reported to police for speeding right through the middle of Lillooet, well in excess of the town’s 50-kilometre-per-hour speed zones. RCMP clocked the vehicle at 104 kilometres-per-hour.

When an RCMP member spoke to the driver, she argued the heads-up display in her car had told her the speed limit was 100-kilometres-per-hour.
