KAMLOOPS — The NHL journey for homegrown talent Logan Stankoven took another step on Tuesday, signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars, the team that drafted the 18 year old in the second round (47th overall) of this summer’s NHL Draft.

Despite inking a pro contract, it’s likely the 18 year old will be returning to Kamloops before the season-opener in Prince George on Saturday (Oct. 2). An 18 or 19-year-old player either has to play with the NHL club or be returned to his junior team.

In six games with the Blazers in last season’s B.C. Division hub, Stankoven recorded two points per game with seven goals and three assists. Overall, he has 36 goals and 23 assists in 73 games in Kamloops.

The Kamloops native elevated his draft status with four goals and four assits at the 2021 IIHF U18 World Championship, including the game-winning goal to help Canada capture the gold medal.
