LYTTON, B.C. — CN Rail is confirming a derailment on its mainline near Lytton.

In an email to CFJC Today, CN confirms it is responding to an incident that took place five miles north of Lytton on its track alongside the Thompson River.

Initial reports suggest five grain hopper cars on a CP Rail train using the CN track derailed at that spot.

Photos from the scene show several grain cars down the slope from the tracks toward the river below, possibly knocked off track by a landslide. Excavators are seen working on the track bed as well as on the slope above the track.
