Williams Lake RCMP offer safety reminder after responding to two overdoses Friday

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — RCMP in Williams Lake are reminding people to keep an eye out for the signs of overdose after responding to a pair of suspected overdoses Friday (Sept. 24).

In a news release, RCMP say a person came to the local detachment at about 12:00 noon Friday, believing they had overdosed. An officer took the person to hospital for treatment.

About two hours later, officers were called to Boitanio Park after another person is suspected to have overdosed. An officer administered naloxone.

Both people survived their harrowing day.

RCMP remind those using opioids to be as safe as possible, and offer the following tips:

  • If you suspect an overdose, call 911.
  • Never use alone — if you overdose you want someone to help.
  • Carry an overdose rescue kit, including naloxone.
