B.C. averages 746 new COVID-19 cases per day over the weekend; hospitalizations down

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded more than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases over the past three days, but hospitalization and intensive care stays have declined.

The totals are included in an update from B.C.’s Ministry of Health.

They show 2,239 new cases in B.C. over the past three days, or an average of 746 per day.

In Interior Health, there were 525 new cases, an average of 175 daily.

The active caseload in B.C. is now 6,098, with 1,159 of those in Interior Health.

There are 303 people in hospital with COVID-19 in B.C., including 141 in intensive care. Both totals are decreases from Friday.

Eighteen more people have died during that interval, including five in Interior Health. The provincial death toll is now 1,940.

There are 21 active healthcare outbreaks in B.C., including Kamloops Seniors Village (19 cases, one death), The Hamlets at Westsyde (six cases), Overlander Senior Centre (14 cases) and Hillside Village in Salmon Arm (nine cases, one death).

The single-dose vaccination rate for eligible British Columbians aged 12 and older has reached 87.7 per cent. The two-dose rate is now 80.5 per cent.
