KAMLOOPS — A vehicle’s expired insurance led Kamloops RCMP to a disturbing discovery Wednesday night (Sept. 22).

At about 10:44 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle near Columbia Street and Highway 1 for having expired insurance. As police were speaking to the driver, they noticed weapons inside the car. The occupants were arrested, but Cst. Crystal Evelyn says that wasn’t the most concerning discovery.

“Further investigation revealed what appeared to be a ‘kidnapping kit’ which included a ball gag, zap straps, and duct tape,” Evelyn said in a release. “[They also seized] weapons, cash, and numerous quantities of suspected heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine and methamphetamine.”

Officers released the occupants pending results of the investigation, which will likely be forwarded to Crown counsel for charge approval.
