MERRITT, B.C. — Conservative Dan Albas will be returning to Ottawa for his fourth term as an MP whenever the House of Commons is recalled.

Following his big victory on Monday night, Albas joined Q101 to discuss some of his priorities for the term and his overall thoughts on the election.

“It’s really where we should have been all this time without an election. We should be focused squarely on helping people get through this wave of the pandemic and focusing on how best we can recover as a people and a an economy,” began Albas. “There is an incredible amount of debt and division left in the wake of this election and we need to be focused on policies that bring people together and sensibly push Canada in a more stable direction.”

Albas also mentioned having two pieces of private members legislation that died on the order paper was the election was called and working to revive them.

“I have to thank all the other candidates. We have a great country, we may have differences of opinion on how best to prepare Canada for what’s ahead but i believe that the candidates all stuck to the issues, we are all passionate about the direction of the country. It was great to see them put their names forward,” said Albas.

While Albas is headed back to Ottawa, his party will once again be the official opposition with the Conservative’s failing to unseed the Liberals.

“I think it shows that the Canadian people have largely rejected the notion that the PM can call an election during the fourth wave of the pandemic and just stroll in a receive a majority. People did not want to give him a blank check,” said Albas. “It was a $610 million cabinet shuffle. He lost some high profile cabinet ministers in this election.”

“Obviously the Canadian public didn’t want to give us a government yet, but I think they wanted to make sure that Mr.Trudeau understood that just because you want a majority doesn’t mean you deserve one,” added Albas.
