Lillooet RCMP advise homeowners to check properties after squatter incidents
LILLOOET, B.C. — Two incidents of squatters camping on properties were reported by Lillooet RCMP this week.
Police received a report of two squatters camping outside Lillooet Hospital’s parking lot having a campfire Saturday (Sept. 18) afternoon. Officers attended and found a 36-year-old man, that RCMP say is known to police, with a tent and tarp setup in the bushes. The couple were directed to put the fire out, clean up, and leave the area.
Tuesday (Sept 21), a woman called police at 3:30 a.m. that she believed someone was squatting under their mobile home after hearing a banging noise from underneath.
The woman told RCMP that she and her family looked around and found a piece of skirting missing with a foam mattress, pillow, and clothing, but no person. They boarded up the missing skirting prior to police attendance.
