Accident in Dallas confirmed fatal

UPDATE (10 a.m.): Kamloops RCMP confirmed one person was found dead on the East Trans Canada Highway near Dallas.

Highway 1 is reopened after westbound lanes were closed while police and the coroner investigated. Officers responded to a report of a traffic incident with injuries shortly after 5:45 a.m.

Anyone who was travelling in the area prior to the incident is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP and reference file 2021-33187. RCMP say more details will be released.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS —UPDATE- 7:45 am-   RCMP are investigating a serious accident in Dallas on the East Trans Canada Highway.

It’s believed one person is dead after an accident around 6:00 AM this morning. That hasn’t been officially confirmed yet by emergency officials.

Drive B.C. says westbound lanes of the highway are blocked near Holman Road. There will likely be delays for a while until the investigation is complete. rcmp Staff Sergeant Mat Van Laer confirmed the westbound lanes of the highway are closed, and that traffic is being rerouted through Shuswap Road at the Lafarge turnoff. The incident was first reported as involving a motorcycle, but subsequent reports indicate it may have been a bicycle.

Crews have also been dispatched to an accident in the Birch Island area on highway 5. Not much known at this point, except that a semi trailer has gone over an embankment.

And crews are also attending a two-vehicle accident on the East Trans Canada near the Lafarge turnoff. It was reported around 7:30 AM and no details are available as of 7:45 AM. Traffic is heavily backed up.
