One injured, one charged after Saturday stabbing at Sahali motel

KAMLOOPS — One man was injured and another arrested in a stabbing at a Lower Sahali motel Saturday (Sept. 18).

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cst. Crystal Evelyn says police were called to the Star Lodge on Columbia Street West at about 5:08 p.m. on Saturday.

Responding officers found a person giving first aid to a man who had been stabbed. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance. He has since been released with non-life threatening injuries.

Initially, RCMP arrested a woman at the scene. They later determined a man was the suspect. He was located a short time later and arrested.

Kenneth Patrick West, 49, of Kamloops is facing the following charges:

  • assault with a weapon
  • assault causing bodily harm
  • probation violation (possessing a weapons)
  • probation violation (possessing a knife outside of his home except for the preparation and consumption of food)

West is due in court Monday afternoon.

Evelyn notes police were on scene well after the incident as they were obtaining and executing a search warrant related to the stabbing investigation.
