RCMP confirm Merritt death as homicide, release victim’s identity
MERRITT, B.C. — Investigators from the Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) are now identifying the man whose death was previously characterized as suspicious and confirming he was the victim of homicide.
Just before 8:00 a.m. on September 14, front line officers from the Merritt RCMP attended to an area near Nicola Lake. When officers arrived they located the body of a deceased person whose death is believed to be suspicious.
Police have now confirmed that the man found near Nicola Lake on Tuesday is Dennis Michael Walters, 51, of Merritt and his death was the result of a homicide.
