Pilot project converts Nanaimo’s take-out packaging to stainless steel
NANAIMO — To combat a spike in single use take-out food containers spurred by the pandemic, a new project is pushing people to make the move to metal.
Reusables VI partnered with five Nanaimo restaurants and coffee shops as part of a month-long pilot project to serve take-out goods in stainless steel containers.
Jennifer Leslie, co-owner of Reusables VI, told NanaimoNewsNOW people sign up for the container program, based off similar programs run in Toronto, Vancouver and other major cities, by paying a monthly fee then order normally through partner eateries.
“The restaurant would then pass your food in the stainless steel containers which we’ve supplied them and you would pick up your food as normal or have it delivered.
