Kamloops RCMP officer assaulted after mental health arrest

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a mental health arrest led to the assault of a police officer Monday (Sept. 13) by a Kamloops man.

Officers attended an address on the 200-block of Victoria Street to apprehend a man wanted on a Form 21 Mental Health Warrant. The man allegedly attempted to flee and punched an officer in the head in the process of the arrest.

“The officer suffered a minor injury, but is expected to recover fully,” Cst. Crystal Evelyn says.

The man was released to the hospital, pending the investigation’s conclusion and subsequent charge assessment.
