Myeloma March takes its step in Kamloops on Sunday

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops partakes in the Myeloma March Sunday (Sept. 12) morning.

It’s one of 32 national five kilometre walks to raise funds for research and access to innovative medications that will increase life expectancy and move the needle toward a cure for patients impacted by myeloma.

Michelle Oana, Director of Development and Community Relations with Myeloma Canada, says the hope is to raise awareness in Kamloops and area.

“Being that it’s the second most common form of blood cancer, it still remains relatively unknown,” Oana told CFJC Today. “People often confuse it with melanoma, which is a completely different type of cancer. It’s hard to decipher what is a Myeloma; it’s not a breast, lung, or kidney. It’s still uncurable, so we want to raise funds for research to help find a cure and help people understand the signs and symptoms to help diagnose earlier.”
