Nine more British Columbians die of COVID-19 Friday; hospitalizations up to 281

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded 820 new cases of COVID-19 Friday (Sept. 10), and nine more deaths from the virus.

The totals are included in the daily update provided by the B.C. Ministry of Health.

The update shows 253 new cases within Interior Health Friday.

B.C.’s active COVID-19 caseload is up to 5,850 Friday, with nearly one-third of those cases (1,828) in Interior Health.

There are 281 COVID-19 patients in hospital, including 135 in intensive care.

The ministry says 70 per cent of all new cases in the past week have been found in people who have not received any doses of vaccine, with 82 per cent of all hospitalizations among unvaccinated people.

Of the nine deaths, three took place in the Interior. B.C. has seen 1,856 deaths since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The single-dose vaccination rate is at 85.5 per cent for eligible British Columbians aged 12 and older, with the two-dose vaccination rate an even 78 per cent.
