ASHCROFT, B.C. — Ashcroft RCMP are shedding some light into a crash that took a man’s life near the community Wednesday (Sept. 8).

Speaking to CFJC Today, Cst. Richard Wright says first responders were called to a spot on Highway 97C between Ashcroft and Logan Lake just after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Wright says a vehicle went off the road into the ditch.

“There was believed to be one man involved with that vehicle,” said Wright. “By the time emergency services arrived, unfortunately the man was deceased at the scene.”

Wright says the B.C. Coroners Service, which is also conducting an investigation, is still working to confirm the man’s identity.

“We’re looking into the very early stages of our investigation, including what factors were present on the road,” he added. “We know it was raining early yesterday. Whether that was a factor in the collision, I’m not sure, but it looks to be that the man sustained injuries through the collision — that it was not a medical issue.”

Wright noted a lane closure was in place for much of the investigation, but a full highway closure was very brief.
